Woman taken to hospital after being shot in Christchurch

A woman was shot in the leg at a house in Spreydon, Christchurch.

Police were called to the house at 3.10 this afternoon after someone in the area reported hearing "what sounded like a gunshot," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

The woman had already been taken to hospital when emergency services arrived. 

Police are speaking to the woman and people at the property to establish what happened. 

A Canterbury District Health Board spokesperson said the woman is in a stable condition.
