One person dead after crashing into tree near Rotorua

One person has died in a car crash this morning after hitting a tree in a rural location southeast of Rotorua.

The crash took place on Dun Road near Kaingaroa Village and police said they were called about 9.25am.

One car was involved, and police said it had crashed into a tree.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, died following the crash.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
