Desert Road closed due to snow, warnings in place for Napier-Taupo road

Motorists are warned it could snow on the North Island’s Desert Road.

The Desert Road (State Highway 1) has been closed between Waiouru and Rangipo due to snowfall today.

Warnings also remain in place for road snowfall on the Napier Taupo Road (State Highway 5), as well as Porters Pass (State Highway 73).

NZTA said a detour is in place at the Desert Road via National Park and Ohakune.
