All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has full confidence in youngster Josh Ioane, following his Test debut in the 92-7 victory over Tonga in Hamilton.

Ioane, 24, came off the bench for his first Test cap, having been left on the bench in the Rugby Championship opener against Argentina earlier this year.

From there, Ioane looked at ease in Test rugby, setting up teammate George Bridge with his very first touch of the ball as an All Black.

Speaking to media after the match, Hansen gave Ioane his tick of approval, despite the fact that he's been left out of the 31-man squad to travel to Japan for the Rugby World Cup later this month.

"He did pretty well," Hansen said.

"His kicking game was good, his running game was good.

"He showed some composure, he got a couple of big hits and got back up and carried on playing well.

"His mental fortitude was good, it was a good introduction for him."
