The All Blacks are relishing the return of midfielder Ryan Crotty, named to start for his first Test of 2019 against Tonga in Hamilton tomorrow.

Having missed the end of the Super Rugby season, and the entire Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup campaigns, Crotty will be heading into the World Cup lacking in match sharpness, although he will start in the number 12 jersey tomorrow.

Speaking to media at his side's captains run this afternoon, Kieran Read spoke about what Crotty's return means for the All Blacks.

"It's awesome," Read said.

"Obviously he's had a bit of time off, he needs the footy under his belt heading into the World Cup.

"He's an integral part - he's part of the leadership group in our team. I expect him to go well tomorrow."

Tomorrow's Test will be the last time Crotty plays on home soil, leaving New Zealand for Japan after this year's World Cup.
