Prisoner left needing medical treatment after assault at Christchurch Men's Prison

A prisoner has been assaulted by two other prisoners at Christchurch Men's Prison this evening according to Corrections.

An ambulance is currently on site treating the prisoner who is conscious and responsive to medical staff.

"Staff responded quickly and bravely to bring the situation under control," Joanne Harrex, Prison Director of Christchurch Men's Prison told 1 NEWS in a statement.

An investigation will be carried out by Corrections in cooperation with police.
