Taranaki have picked up their second straight win in the Mitre 10 Cup, defeating Manawatu 13-10 in miserable conditions in Palmerston North.
With just a penalty try, and two penalties to first-five Daniel Waite, Taranaki were outscored by the Turbos in terms of tries, with both Ben Werthmuller and Jamie Booth crossing for Manawatu.
The home side took the lead early on, a penalty try awarded as Manawatu collapsed Taranaki's rolling maul, hooker Nick Grogan collapsing yet not shown a yellow card.
With the first half finishing at 10-10, a penalty to Taranaki through Waite was the only scoring of the second half, the two sides playing out a match that won't be remembered as a classic.
The win sees Taranaki move to top of the Mitre 10 Cup championship, while Manawatu stay second to last but they could drop to bottom if Otago beat Southland later today.
