All Blacks assistant coach Ian Foster has given the Beauden Barrett-Richie Mo'unga combination a pass mark, having both played the entire match in the 16-all draw with South Africa.

Starting together for the first time in a Test match, as the All Blacks looked to utilise a dual-playmaker strategy, Barrett and Mo'unga both shared the field for the whole match, with no other first-five option on the bench.

Barrett, 28, was involved in the All Blacks' only try of the night, the move to fullback allowing him more attacking freedom than what would have been seen had he stayed at 10.

Speaking to media after the match, Foster gave his thoughts on how the duo combined.

"I think there were some nice signs there," Foster said.

"I thought there was some nice patches in that third and fourth quarter, that Richie and Beaudie sort of got things organised.

"It's a work in progress."
