Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes lower North Island

A 4.1 earthquake has struck the lower North Island coast early this morning.

The quake, centred 15 kilometres northwest of Levin at a depth of 29 kilometres, hit the country at 12.55am, according to GeoNet.

The quake was reported to have been felt by 853 people, GeoNet said.
