Baby taken to hospital after police take driver into custody in Auckland

A baby has been taken to hospital and a man is in police custody following an incident in the inner Auckland suburb of Ponsonby tonight.

Police stopped a vehicle on Ponsonby Road shortly after 7.30pm due to the manner of driving, a police spokesperson said. 

The male driver got out of the vehicle with a baby. 

The man was taken into custody after the baby was in the hands of emergency services. 

The baby was then taken to hospital to be assessed.
