Christchurch wargamers and modelers joined forces today to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
For event organiser Tony Ormandy, getting read for today’s special game day has taken many hours.
Those hours have created some of the 300-model infantry for a battle four days on from the D-Day landings with German reinforcements arriving in Normandy.
“It’s just our part of saying well done guys,” Mr Ormandy told 1 NEWS.
“It’s a big thanks because Normandy was the battle that convinced the world the Germans couldn’t win.”
Ultimately the group of wargamers and modelers hope to increase awareness of New Zealand’s involvement in the pivotal battle.
The wargame continues until tomorrow.
