The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) have released fascinating time-lapse footage of the construction of a new Waiho Bridge on the West Coast.

The original bridge was destroyed in flooding two weeks ago, and is a vital link between the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier.

The fall in visitor numbers is estimated to be costing the West Coast economy up to $3 million a day.

More wet weather this week has delayed the bridge's planned opening tomorrow.

NZTA officials hope to have the bridge open sometime this weekend.
