Rosie White threads game-winner past keeper as Football Ferns stun Norway

April 10, 2019

The Football Ferns have claimed an historic win over world No 12 Norway this morning after earning their first victory over the Scandinavians since 1981.

The Football Ferns claimed the win in Spain thanks to a determined finish from Rosie White in the third minute, when she fought with two defenders to gain control of the ball before threading it past Norwegian keeper Ingrid Hjelmseth.

It is White's 24th goal for New Zealand in her 99th international match.

The Ferns were then tested to hold on to their lead, but with former captain Abby Erceg leading at the back Norway couldn't get through.

Ferns keeper Erin Nayler did, however, have to make a superb one-handed save in the 82nd minute to hold on to her clean sheet.

The win is the Ferns' first in 38 years against Norway and second in seven matches.

It's also a significant result for new manager Tom Sermanni, who is continuing to build the team up for their World Cup campaign in France in June later this year.

The Ferns continue their journey to France with friendlies against world No 1 USA, world No four England and Wales.
