One of the first paramedics at the scene of the Al Noor Mosque terrorist attack in Christchurch has delivered a petition to Parliament over fair pay for paramedics.

Dean Brown handed the 14,000 strong petition over to NZ First's Darroch Ball shortly before 1pm today.

According to a release from First Union, the petition is part of the Shift Our Pay campaign that "seeks shift recognition for night and weekend work and for better recognition of the education and responsibility of ambulance professional roles".

The petition comes as partial strike actions from around 1000 St John ambulance officers continues.

First Union says the partial strikes are being structured so patient safety won't be compromised.

The charity is facing a multi-million-dollar deficit. (Source: Other)

After handing over the petition, Mr Brown thanked Mr Ball, NZ First and Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters for their support on the fair pay issue.

He also said the Christchurch terrorist attack has highlighted the way New Zealand's ambulance service is only partly funded by the Government.

"The public seem to support that emergency services like St John should be 100 per cent funded and the money they currently give up for donations and funding could be used in better ways," Mr Brown told 1 NEWS.
