Broadcasters could have a huge say in the future of rugby in the southern hemisphere, with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting a number of proposed changes post 2021.
With Super Rugby's format to change back to a 14-team round robin structure from 2021 onwards, the newspaper claims to have obtained a copy of a wish list from broadcasters Sky in New Zealand, Fox Sports in Australia, Super Sport in South Africa and Sky Sports UK.
One major change would see Super Rugby's final be played at a predetermined neutral venue, rather than that of the regular season's highest-ranked side currently in place.
Other mooted adjustments would see the addition of concepts such as 'marquee players' - allowing for movement of Test stars between rival nations' clubs without impacting their international prospects.
The international game would also be impacted, if the proposed wish list were to be implemented, with the Rugby Championship shifting to to a "tour based itinerary" - similar to the current June series' scheduling, running from August to October in two separate windows.
Neither Rugby Australia or SANZAAR responded to the Sydney Morning Herald's request for comments over the reported wish list.
