The Highlanders have suffered a double injury blow after Friday's 31-28 defeat to the Hurricanes in Dunedin, with the duo of Marty Banks and Richard Buckman both ruled out for the near future.

Having started in the number 10 jersey, 29-year old Banks has suffered a broken bone in his foot, expected to miss between four and six weeks to recover.

Meanwhile, Buckman could face a longer spell on the sidelines, having sustained what the Highlanders describe as a "significant Achilles injury."

Buckman, 29, will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury.

The Highlanders' stocks are already depleted, with the likes of All Blacks Liam Squire, Aaron Smith and Waisake Naholo also sidelined with injury.
