Fan charged with assault of wrestling legend Bret 'Hitman' Hart during WWE speech

April 8, 2019

Wrestling legend Bret 'Hitman' Hart was left unharmed after being attacked while delivering a speech at a WWE event in New York.

Hart, 61, was being honoured as an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame for the second time, recognised as part of the tag-team with Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart.

However, things went awry when 26-year-old Zachary Madsen invaded the stage, wrapping his arms around Hart before being wrestled to the ground, according to authorties.

CNN reports that Madsen has been charged with two counts of third-degree assault, criminal trespassing and a misdemeanour charge.

"I couldn't believe that the security had missed him in the first place, and the next thing you know there was Shane McMahon and Travis Brown on top of him - the crowd was going crazy booing," a spectator told The Associated Press.

"Everyone was cheering when one of the wrestlers punched him."

Hart was able to walk away unscathed after the attack.
