Divers have been warned to be on high alert following the recent sighting of a five-metre-long great white shark off the southeast Wairarapa coast.
The shark was seen by fishermen working in Tora, 40km south of Martinborough, several weeks ago, Stuff reports.
"It was seen a couple of weeks ago, but that's not to say it wouldn't still be hanging around," Paua 2 Industry Association chairman Tony Craig said.
"We just sent the warning out to divers to be aware while they're in the water and know that there's one floating around."
The sighting of a great white shark is rare in coastal waters.
