Funds raised by Victim Support are being distributed to families experiencing immediate needs following the Christchurch terrorist attacks last month.
More than $10 million dollars has been raised both here and around the world across multiple platforms to support the families affected after 50 people died on March 15th after a gunman opened fire at two Christchurch mosques.
That’s left many in the Muslim community needing support.
More than $1.5 million dollars from a fund run by Victim Support has already gone to around 500 people affected, in the form of an initial grant.
"This has been in the form of an initial grant so for families who have lost a love one we've distributed 15,000 for each person who has died in the incident and then for each person that has been injured its 5,000," says Victim Support Chief Executive, Kevin Tso.
On top of that, extra funding is being given for immediate expenses.
"Things like food, accommodation, travel for relatives and even providing driving lessons for families where their main bread winner has been killed and mum needs to be able to drive," he says.
More lump sums may be given to the families in the future, but the funds are currently being held in a trust.
