Crusaders coach Scott Robertson says his side were itching to play in front of their home fans once again, following last night's 36-14 victory over the Brumbies.

Having played only away games since the March 15 Christchurch terrorist attacks that left 50 dead, the Crusaders were finally able to play in front of their home fans once again last night, with an emotional victory helping the city attempt to return to normal life.

Speaking after the match, Robertson opened up about what his side's homecoming meant.

"We wanted to keep the week as normal as possible," he said.

"We were a little bit too emotional in that Waratahs game, and maybe too keen. When it clicked for us at halftime, the energy was good, we had clear heads.

"[It was] great to get in front of our people, and put a show on that we're proud of, and I'm sure they are."

The Crusaders' relief will be short lived though, this week preparing for a Kiwi southern derby against the Highlanders in Christchurch.
