Large fire contained after stretching 4.1 hectares near North Canterbury's SH1

Forty-two firefighters and a number of fire engines called to the scene after a large fire spread to just 500 metres away from North Canterbury's SH1 this afternoon.

The fire, which stretched 4.1 hectares, began on Rangiora Woodend Road at around 1.40pm, a Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1 NEWS.

No properties were lost in the incident.

The fire has since been contained.
