Students at Burnside High School who lost a class mate in the Christchurch terrorist attack have gathered at North Hagley Park to remember him.

Thousands have gathered at the Ko tātou, tātou - We are one National Remembrance Service to pay respect to the 50 people who lost their lives on March 15th.

Burnside High School’s head boy and head girl are remembering fellow year 12 student Muhammad Haziq-Mohd Tarmizi.

"We are here to pay tribute and respect to our fallen student Haziq who lost his life in the Dean’s Ave mosque," said head girl, Amelia MacDonald.

"We are also here to prove that Christchurch is unified and we stand as one against all these horrible crimes that have happened in this city," she said.

John Campbell spoke to the pair shortly before the service began.
