One person dead after car crash near Bluff

One person is dead after crash near Bluff in Southland overnight.

Police say the single vehicle crash happened at around midnight on Tiwai Road at Awarua Plains.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene.

Police say the passenger was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but is now in a moderate, stable condition.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the crash.
