As the nation enters the third day after terror attacks in Christchurch in which 50 people died and another 50 were injured Jacinda Ardern says, "everyone is grieving and I'm grieving with them".

The Prime Minister told TVNZ1's Breakfast there is a lot of grief in New Zealand right now, "there is also anger, there are questions that need to be answered and that we are looking for aswell."

She reiterated that the gun laws will change.

"What the public rightly are asking right now is why is it and how is it that you are currently able to buy military style semi-automatic weapons in New Zealand and that’s the right question to ask.

"There are ways we can bring in affective regulation of firearms that actually target those we need to target and that is our focus."

Ms Ardern said she will tell the public exactly what the Government plan to do "very soon".

She is grieving with New Zealand, she said, but she said she also has a very important job to do.

"I need to ensure that we are looking after those affected, that they have ongoing care and support, not just in the coming days, but the coming months and years."
