Hutt Hospital Childcare Centre to be permanently closed after probe into complaints about care

Hutt Hospital Childcare Centre in Lower Hutt will be permanently closed following a temporary closure while the Ministry of Education investigated a number of allegations about the level of care and professional practice provided.

The ministry suspended the centre’s licence on December 18, 2018 and the centre has been closed since then.

"We worked closely with the independent investigator, who reached the view there was sufficient evidence of breaches of the Centre’s Child Protection Policy and the Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations," a spokesperson for the ministry said in a statement to 1 NEWS today.

The spokesperson said the process for cancelling the childcare’s licence has begun and this means it will remain permanently closed.

Police and Oranga Tamariki are not investigating further but the Teaching Council is carrying out its own investigation.
