Support for the Tasman drought's been extended to cover the areas of Marlborough and Buller.

$100,000 was given to the Rural Support Trust last month with farmers facing tough water shortages and restrictions.

While that fund hasn't been used up yet, an additional $30,000 has been pledged.

Agriculture Minister Damien O'Connor says despite recent rain the situation's still dire.

“While we have some rain and the grass may start growing - the animals are hungry - were working with the Mayoral Relief Fund to transport feed up to those areas where they need it.”

Work and Income and Inland Revenue are also offering support for those affected.
