March 11, 2019

A woman has been brutally attacked by a jaguar while trying to take a selfie with the animal at a zoo in the US state of Arizona.

Her injuries are not life-threatening but she has been left with deep gashes in her arm.

She stepped over the barrier and approached the enclosure to take the photo when the jaguar swipped her through the fencing, the BBC reports.

Wildlife World Zoo director Mickey Ollson said, "They’re [the barriers] there for a good reason."

He said there was "no way to fix people crossing barriers."

He confirmed to the BBC that today's incident was a result of "human error" and the jaguar would not have to be euthanised.
