Much of central New Zealand has welcomed a deluge of rain in the past 24 hours as parched regions have soaked up much-needed millimetres of water.
A heavy band of rain is moving up the North Island from the south, which has made for a wet day in central New Zealand and most of the North Island.
The upper North Island is set to receive more heavy showers over the course of today.
MetService said Wainuiomata recorded above 100mm over the past 24 hours and Khandallah received just over 70mm.
Rain has also again delayed the start of play in the second Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh at Wellington's Basin Reserve.
Tomorrow, scattered rain is forecast for eastern parts of both islands and by Monday the west of the South Island is set to see rain.
Auckland should see a fine Sunday as showers ease off this evening and for the rest of the country, settled weather is expected.
