You may (or may not) be surprised to hear that Jacinda Ardern is excited over today’s news that heavy metal band Metallica is heading to New Zealand.

"I have pretty diverse tastes, it probably comes with growing up in the Waikato," the Prime Minister told TVNZ1 Seven Sharp reporter Claire Robbie who put to Ms Ardern today: "Who would have thought our Prime Minister's a massive Metallica fan?"

Ms Ardern says she quite likes the band's Load album.

Metallica will play a one-off show in Auckland on October 31.
