'Go check the numbers' - jovial Stephen Donald doesn't take reporter's dig at his speed lightly

Chiefs veteran first-five Stephen Donald is adamant he can still keep up with his livewire teammate Damian McKenzie.

The 35-year-old had his speed questioned by 1 NEWS sports reporter Stephen Stuart, while at a Chiefs training session in Hamilton today.

Stuart told Donald there was a noticeable difference in pace between him and McKenzie.

"Was there?" asked Donald.

"I bet you the stats will tell you it is very similar pace wise. I'm feeling good, I catch him on the last 60.

"Go check the numbers I'm telling ya, go check the numbers."

The Chiefs will be looking to bounce back against the Sunwolves on Saturday in Hamilton, after they were thrashed 54-17 in Canberra last weekend by the Brumbies.
