$20m for leaky building repairs at Auckland high school

February 26, 2019
Excessive duplication has led to the proposal, Chris Hipkins says, not a lack of hard work.

A funding injection of $20 million is going towards leaky building repairs at Auckland's Botany Downs Secondary College, the Government announced today.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins said there would be re-roofing and cladding to address weathertightness issues.

"Today's announcement is the first of a series of investments this Government is making this year in our schools," Mr Hipkins said.

The work would be carried out on buildings that hold 70 of the 84 classrooms in the 1800-student school, and would be carried out over several years.

"We know that many existing buildings not affected by weathertightness at schools around the country have been neglected or barely patched up in recent years.

"That is not fair on the students or teachers and needs to change," Mr Hipkins said.
