A new campaign to name and shame the worst offenders at over-packaging has been launched by TVNZ1's Fair Go, and the programme's calling on viewers to help.
The show said the war on single use plastic bags might have been won, but there's still plenty of work to be done on over-packaging.
"So we're starting a new campaign to name and shame the worst offenders and see if we can help reduce packaging," co-presenter Pippa Wetzell told viewers last night. "Which is where you come in," she added.
Viewers keen to join Fair Go in the fight are being asked to send videos and photos of examples of overpackaging to the show's Facebook page or email fairgo@tvnz.co.nz
The programme reported New Zealanders are addicted to plastic and as a result our ocean's are now drowning in it, while on land there's "a plastic pollution pile-up".
One example of over-packaging was an avocado wrapped up in plastic container.
The programme was told "New Zealand has been a bit behind the eight ball. There's a long way to go" when it comes to over-packaging.
"We know. But together we'll try and change the wasters' ways," Fair Go said.
