The film is about Dr Don Shirley, a world-class African-American pianist, who embarks on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962.

5:10pm: Best Director goes to Alfonso Cuarón for Roma.
4:55pm: Best Actress in a Leading Role is won by Olivia Colman for The Favourite. Her first nomination and first win!
4:45pm: Best Actor in a Leading Role goes to Rami Malek for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody!
4:40pm: Hollywood legend Barbara Streisand receives a standing ovation as she introduces a clip of Best Picture nominee BlacKkKlansman.
4:27pm: Lady Gaga has her first Oscar after three nominations for the song Shallow from A Star is Born.
Fighting back tears, Gaga tells people at home to "fight for their dreams".
4:25pm: Another win for superhero movie Black Panther, this time for Original Score.
4:13pm: Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson present the award for Best Original Screenplay to the winner Green Book.
The movie is also nominated for Best Picture.
Best Adapted Screenplay goes to BlacKkKlansman.
4:10pm: Best Live Action Short Film is won by Skin.
4:00pm: The Oscar for Visual Effects goes to the space drama First Man.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are now performing Shallow from their film A Star is Born.
3:50pm: Period. End Of Sentence. Wins best Documentary Short Film, "I can't believe a film about menstruation won an Oscar," one of the filmmakers says in her acceptance speech.
3:45pm: Best Animated Short goes to Bao.
Before this Mike Myers and Dana Carvey introduced a look at Bohemian Rhapsody evoking their famous scene from 1992's Wayne's World where the two rocked out to the song.
3:35pm: Another break in the awards for a performance of When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
3:32pm: Best Animated Feature Film goes to Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. A film many parents will likely be familiar with!
3:26pm: Actor in a Supporting Role goes to Mahershala Ali for his performance in Green Book.
3:25pm: Yet another win for Bohemian Rhapsody, this time for Film Editing. A sign of things to come for the glamour awards perhaps?
3:10pm: Bette Midler is now performing The Place Where Lost Things Go from Mary Poppins Returns.
3:07pm: Best Foreign Language Film is won by Mexico's Roma, a film up for a number of awards.
3.00pm: Sound Mixing is also won by Bohemian Rhapsody, back-to-back wins for the film!
2:55pm: The Oscar for Sound Editing goes to Bohemian Rhapsody.
2:47pm: Jennifer Hudson is now performing the song I'll fight from the documentary RBG.
2:45pm: The Oscar for Cinematography goes to Roma.
2:40pm: Another win for Black Panther! This time for Production Design.
2:32pm: A popular winner as Black Panther takes out the best Costume Design Oscar.
The award was presented by Melissa McCarthy, who was wearing an outfit replete with stuffed animals sewn all over it. A nod to the subtle work done by costume designers in Hollywood.
2:27pm: The Oscar for Makeup and Hairstyling goes to the team from Vice.

2:17pm: Jason Momoa and Helen Mirren take the stage to announce the next award which is for best Documentary Feature.
And the winner goes too... free climbing documentary Free Solo.
2:15pm: The award for Outstanding Supporting Actress goes to Regina King for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.
2:08pm: Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler take the stage as the "unofficial hosts" of the Oscars and give an impression of what the evening would have been like if they had hosted, with a number of impressions and gags.
2:00pm: With no official host this year the ceremony gets underway with a performance of Queen's We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions by Actor in a Leading Role nominee Rami Malek.
Brian May is there noodling away on the guitar like only he can as well of course. A refreshing way to open proceedings and the stars in the crowd seem to enjoy the performance.
1:55pm: Yalitza Aparicio looks stunning in a blue gown. She is nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for Roma.
