The name of a jet boat pilot who died yesterday after a crash on the Clutha River north of Wanaka has been named this afternoon.
He was Cameron Douglas Moore, aged 45, of Christchurch, police said.
The New Zealand Jet Boat River Racing Association said the incident took place about 1.15pm during the first of two afternoon race legs.
Adam Wilton, 34, who was navigating in the boat, also suffered concussion and broken fingers. He is recovering in Dunedin Hospital.
The Association said details of how the crash happened are still being investigated, and sent condolences to Mr Moore's family.
"Cameron has always been a passionate competitor and supporter of jet boat river racing, as with other motorsport exploits he was involved in and is well known in recreational outdoor pursuits through his ownership of Ballinger’s Hunting & Fishing in Christchurch," the release read.
Association president John Derry said "we all know and accept the risk of competitive motorsport but in our small close knit jet boat racing community this is a particularly difficult time.
"Our thoughts are with Sharon and Seth, and Cameron’s parents Merv and Gail."
Sunday's fatal crash came after nine people were injured in a jet boat crash in Shotover River, in Queenstown , on Saturday.
