The jet boat community has been left in "total shock" after one person died and another was injured in a race north of Wanaka yesterday afternoon.
The fatality occurred during the third leg of the four-leg Otago Rivers Race race on the Clutha River, 2km downstream from the Albert Town Bridge.
The driver died of their injuries at the scene, while another was injured after the jet boat left the water and catapulted over 20 metres up a steep riverbank.
In a post on the New Zealand Jet Boat River Racing Association Facebook page late last night, the group's president Paul Mullan wrote: "For those unaware we tragically lost one of our 'family' in an accident today which has left everyone in total shock."
"Our sincere condolences go to the families of those involved."
Sunday's fatal crash came after nine people were injured in a jet boat crash in Shotover River, in Queenstown , on Saturday.
