Cold morning to kick off the working week, Tuesday's set to be chillier around much of NZ

Sheep grazing on a grassland. This weather is cold, wet and moist. The fog and mist create a low visibility environment. The image has a dreamy and enchanted feel. This was taken in New Zealand.

It might be time to fish out that winter clothing and heavy duvet.

MetService says colder than usual morning temperatures are expected in many parts of the country early this week.

The lower South Island was likely to be the coldest this morning with much of the rest of the country set to experience chilly morning temperatures tomorrow.

"The lower South Island is likely to be coldest on Monday morning, while Tuesday morning is looking the coldest for the rest of New Zealand," says MetService Meteorologist Stephen Glassey.

"Early morning temperatures could get close to zero in some inland parts of both Islands."

MetService says the outlook for rain for the places that really need it most, such as Canterbury, isn’t great.
