Te Matatini Kapa Haka Festival 2019 sees rousing performances on Day Two

New Zealand's premier kapa haka competition was in full swing on Day Two at Wellington's Westpac Stadium today.

Te Matatini Kapa Haka Festival 2019 has drawn the country's best cultural performers and their supporters to battle it out for the Duncan McIntyre trophy.

Eighteen-hundred performers in 46 groups from Aotearoa and Australia are hitting the stage, performing to an audience of thousands.

The teams are aiming to qualify for nine spots on finals day, Sunday, when the supreme title is awarded to the world's best kapa haka team.

The incumbent champions, Whangara Mai Tawhiti, performed this evening.
