A top Northland police officer has labelled allegations of sexual assault against him as "totally incorrect".
Kevin Burke continued today to give evidence at the High Court at Auckland.
He denies four charges of sexual assault relating to two complainants.
Earlier in the trial, the first complainant told the jury that the detective inspector – whom she first met when reporting a crime – turned up unannounced at her house with a box of beer and bottle of wine.
The woman, who has name suppression, alleged that Burke forced himself on her, before sexually assaulting her.
But Burke told the jury they had consensual sexual activity.
“The dinner had informally been arranged,” he said.
He added they talked until after midnight, before the woman showed him to the spare room.
A short time later, he tesified, the woman came to the door of his room, "takes off her t-shirt and climbs into bed”.
When defence lawyer Arthur Fairley asked Burke whether he pulled her and pushed her to the floor, Burke responded: "Totally incorrect. I’d been invited around there."
The defendant said they maintained phone contact after that night, which culminated in another dinner.
Cross-examination of Burke will commence on Monday.
