Lions and tigers and bears, oh my. Or perhaps that should read, Lions and buffalo and polar bears, oh my.
Because those animals, along with several other mammals like miniature foxes, goats and owls, are just some of the nearly 150 stuffed animals up for auction in Dunedin.
All animals coming from three different collectors in Otago and with a heavy price tag.
"You're looking at anything from a couple of hundred dollars, right up to the tens of thousands of dollars," Proctor Auctions manager Ronnie Proctor says.
All items will be auctioned off on March 3, with particular interest surrounding a nine foot tall polar beer.
"He's massive, he makes my brother look tiny and he's six foot four, six foot five," Mr Proctor says.
So far the response has been largely positive, with all animals dying at a time where collections like these were considered okay.
"Back in the fifties, sixties and seventies, museums actually sent out people to shoot these specimen, for them to put them in their collections … nowadays it's frowned upon, this was done when people were allowed to go out and do it, and it was a profession," Mr Proctor says.
