Jordan Kahu leaving Broncos for Cowboys to fill role left by sacked Ben Barba - report

Kiwis star Jordan Kahu is reportedly set to leave the Brisbane Broncos in response to a desperate bid from the North Queensland Cowboys to find a fullback.

NRL.com reports Kahu will sign a one-year deal with the Cowboys as early as this weekend once his focus on the All Star game, where he will represent the New Zealand Māori, is over.

The Cowboys are seeking a fullback for the 2019 sesaon after they missed out on star Valentine Holmes, who left the NRL to pursue an NFL career, and they sacked Ben Barba over domestic violence allegations.

Kahu has expressed interest in playing at fullback but hasn't been able to get time there in Brisbane with Darius Boyd owning the No.1 jersey.

The 28-year-old is also facing the possibility of not featuring in the match day squads with the Broncos due to the depth of talent the Brisbane club has in Boyd, Jamayne Isaako and Corey Oates covering the back three.

Kahu has played 98 NRL matches since his 2012 debut for Brisbane and also represented New Zealand nine times.
