Security breach at Auckland Airport halts screening and flights

February 12, 2019
Passengers at Auckland Airport weigh in on this morning’s controversial decision to shoot the airport security dog.

Domestic jet services at Auckland Airport have been temporarily halted due to a security breach.

The Aviation Security Service has told 1 NEWS it is currently dealing with the incident at Auckland Airport, but could not say when services will resume.

A passenger on a plane on the tarmac at the airport says screening has been halted.

"Planes stopped boarding. I’m on board for Wellington waiting," the passenger said in a text message.

Auckland Airport says passenger processing at the domestic terminal has been temporarily halted while a security concern is addressed.

Aviation Security have confirmed they have located a person who is being interviewed, and a decision is yet to be made on whether everyone will be re-screened.

A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman has told 1 NEWS it is believed the incident was caused by a phone left on an aircraft.
