One person dead after car crashes down bank in Wairoa

One person has died after a single-vehicle crash in Wairoa, south of Gisborne, this morning.

The vehicle went down a bank on Tiniroto Road, between Wainwright Road and Ruakituri Road, about 5.45am.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene, police said in a statement.

The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene.
