Crusaders loose forward Jordan Taufua has become the latest among New Zealand rugby ranks to leave for an overseas club, signing for English Premiership side Leicester Tigers.

Taufua was called into the All Blacks squad at the beginning of the 2018 season as cover at number eight for the missing Kieran Read but didn't go on to debut. He later broke his arm in Super Rugby.

The 27-year-old will play out the 2019 season in New Zealand for both the Crusaders and Tasman, aiming to make the All Blacks' World Cup squad before he departs for England.

"I am very excited to be joining the Leicester Tigers after the Rugby World Cup this year," Taufua said.

"I have taken time to learn about the history of the club and it will be an honour to be a part of such a storied rugby programme.

"I see a lot of similarities between the Tigers and the Crusaders, and I am fully bought-in to the vision that Geordan Murphy and his staff have for the team."
