As the Tasman fire enters its fourth day, images of unrelenting smoke tell the story of the reality emergency services are facing as they battle the ongoing blaze.
Liam Richards captured a timelapse of the vast plume of smoke in the suburb of Hope from 7pm to 9:30pm yesterday as the fire raged on.
Rising winds yesterday afternoon have intensified conditions and as the fire continues to move on the ground, its effect above cannot be ignored.
Civil Defence issued a warning overnight, telling residents in the area north of State Highway 6, Wakefield between Pigeon Valley and Arnold Lane to be prepared to evacuate.
Jacinda Ardern told media yesterday that conditions are "dry as a bone."
“The rainfall has been low, the mayor described to me they haven’t had anything other than shallow rainfall since October so that is contributing to the conditions,” she said.
