Sir Michael Hill’s at it again.
The jeweller-turned-golf-course-developer has a new double green on his Arrowtown property – and it's the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
The farm at The Hills has been transformed from an ordinary paddock into a manicured masterpiece in under two years.
"I'm more excited than everything that even happened here. It's a thrill of my life," Sir Michael told Seven Sharp reporter Mike Thorpe.
The golf course presents like the greatest little country course in New Zealand.
"There's part of the old arrow water race, there's a big rusty pipe, one of the old farm deer gates is there with the posts and it's got moss and things on it. It's all part of that history that's steeped in history of this amazing land."
On Wednesday, February 27, the farm will be home to the 100th New Zealand Golf Open.
"We're going to do like Augusta does - which has always been a dream of mine - that all the previous winners and celebrities will be playing that par three course as an opening round.
"We've even got Michael Campbell (2005 US Open champion) coming back, which is really wonderful [and] Sir Bob Charles, of course. It'll be like going down memory lane."
The opening round will be free and open to the public.
