Football Ferns' World Cup build-up gets significant boost after matches against England, Norway confirmed

February 6, 2019

The Football Ferns have added plenty of World Cup warm-up matches to their schedule of the next few months with a chance to square off with World No.4 England the latest match announced this morning.

England announced the fixture this morning which will be played on June 1 in Brighton as one of four World Cup friendlies for them.

For the Kiwi side though, it's another match against a top opponent added to their road to France with two games against world no. 13 Norway announced yesterday as well.

The Football Ferns will play Norway in Spain in April and coach Tom Sermanni says the games will continue to help improve his side.

"These fixtures are a good fit for us for a number of reasons. It is against quality opposition, playing in Spain will be close for our European and American-based players and with the length of the camp we can do a good amount of work together on the training field."

Along with those matches, the Football Ferns are also getting three matches at the inaugural Cup of Nations in Australia later this month where they'll play the hosts, Argentina and Korea.

To wrap things up, they also have a clash with three-time World Cup winners USA in May at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

New Zealand were drawn into Group E with European champions the Netherlands, World no. 5 Canada and Cameroon for the World Cup, which begins in June.
