Chiefs prop Angus Ta'avao is craving another taste of the black jersey, having made his All Blacks debut last year.

Amidst a spate of injuries in the front row, Ta'avao was called into Steve Hansen's squad to face Argentina in Buenos Aires, capping a remarkable rise that started without a Super Rugby contract at the start of 2018.

Speaking to 1 NEWS ahead of Super Rugby's 2019 launch, Ta'avao made his desire for another go at Test rugby all too clear.

"To get in there and be in that environment, to wear the jersey, to sing the anthem, to do the haka, to be around that group, in an environment where you can only really get better, everything's set up for you to get better. Everything's set up for you to get better, everything set up for you to perform and play with the best players in the world, you thrive on that" Ta'avao said.

"You want to perform, you want to be the best you can be. You're representing your family, your country.

"It's pretty special. You want to be in there more than just three games.

"All I can do is focus on a big Super Rugby year. If it comes at the end of the year, that's a reward. If not, then keep working, try to get better."
