The Duchess of Sussex has been mocked for her recent interaction with sex workers by controversial British TV host Piers Morgan.
Morgan was hosting Good Morning Britain last night (New Zealand time) when the topic of the duchess' recent visit to Bristol came up.
During her visit, Markle helped the staff of charity One25 prepare food parcels for sex workers.
While packing the food parcels, the royal newlywed asked for a marker to write empowering messages on the bananas.
"Oh, actually, do you have a Sharpie marker? I have an idea," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "I saw this project this woman had started somewhere in the states on a school lunch programme. On each of the bananas she wrote an affirmation, to make the kids feel really, like, empowered. It was the most incredible idea – this small gesture."
But Morgan scoffed at the idea on Good Morning Britain.
“Giving a sex worker a banana is clearly exposing them to potential mockery,” he suggested.
He asked his co-hosts, “If you'd been advising Meghan Markle before this, would you have said maybe not the bananas?"
A volunteer told the duchess the women would appreciate the gesture.
"It sounds really cheesy, but little things like that when you are out - especially tonight with the weather - just to get that little thing [means the world]," she said. "Meghan took her time out to write that one."
The duchess wrote on the bananas, "You are strong" and "You are loved", as well as "You are brave" and "You are special".
This is not the first time Morgan has criticised Markle.
During her and husband Prince Harry’s tour of New Zealand and Australia last year, during which they revealed they were expecting a baby, Morgan slammed her as being "fake".
"She is an actress," he said. "She’s acting great at the moment.”
