New guide released for parents of teens born in the age of Instagram

February 5, 2019

A new guide has been released for parents of children growing up in the Instagram age.

Instagram is arguably the most popular social media platform for millenials - there are few Kiwi teens who don't have an account, or even more than one.

The guide was created by Instagram as part of their well-being programme, and has been co-authored by Netsafe for New Zealand teens.

It contains tips for parents including how to manage their child's privacy on Instagram, managing interactions and comments, keeping their usage time within an acceptable limit, and ideas on how parents can discuss these things with their child.

Instagram have also launched a newly-designed section on this topic, which can be viewed at parents.instagram.com .

The release coincides with Safer Internet Day today, which aims to improve the safety of people on the internet, especially young people.
