Black Caps opener Martin Guptill will play no part in the upcoming Twenty20 series against India, failing to recover from a back injury.
Guptill, 32, missed yesterday's fifth and final One Day International in Wellington, having picked up a lower back injury in fielding practice on Saturday.
"Unfortunately Martin hasn't recovered in time for this T20 series - which is very condensed with three games over five days," said coach Gary Stead.
"It's a shame as he's obviously a big part of our white-ball sides, but we've got to look at the big picture and ensure he gets the injury right.
All-rounder Jimmy Neesham has instead been called into the side, having top-scored for New Zealand in last night's loss with 44.
"It's great to have Jimmy coming into the side after some encouraging ODI performances.
"It promises to be an exciting series."
The Black Caps begin their three match T20 series at Wellington's Westpac Stadium on Wednesday.
